Tips for Your Drivers Test Posted on July 26th, 2010 by Keri DeVrieze If you’re a first time driver, teenager or simply taking your driving test for the first time, then here are some simple ways to prepare yourself and be successful as you attempt your exam •Before you take your driving test, you should practice where ever possible, provided it’s a relatively empty area. You must always make sure that you have a professional or capable adult driver with you. •Practice driving on test routes. You can typically find them on the DMV site for your area. Be prepared for in town and highway driving. •Get familiar with street signs, hand gestures and traffic times of the area you’ll need to drive in. Watch your surroundings when you’re in an area that you typically have to drive in or will be required to drive in during your test. •Prepare yourself the night before your driving test. It’s important to get a good night’s sleep so that you’re less anxious and able to concentrate. •Prior to your test, when you get into the car, make sure you adjust the seat so that you’re comfortable. You’ll also want to adjust your side view and rear view mirrors to the appropriate places to fit your needs. •Don’t ever drive over the speed limit. You should always maintain a safe speed, which doesn’t necessarily have to be the speed limit. However you never want to break the law by driving over the posted speed limit. •Check your mirrors regularly. It’s crucial that you watch your surroundings and approaching/oncoming vehicles as frequently as possible. •Stop at all stop signs and red lights. It’s important to keep your eyes on the road, but gaze to the right and left and still check your mirrors, all at the same time. You must do all of those things while still making complete and legal stops when posted. •One of the most important things you can do, other than the actual driving, is to make sure you have your vehicle’s registration and insurance. You’ll also want to make sure that your vehicle is functioning properly, such as headlights and blinker bulbs. For additional information on driving tests, check out your local DMV site or search the Internet for a professional driving school.

Great article. I ran a red light when I took my drivers test. Which the Dmv lady said not to worry about it because it had just turned green and then went straight to yellow as I was going under the light and right to red.

I took my test a day I was out of school and was out running errands when I decided I wanted to get my liccense. I have called and he made me come in that day and made teh remark that it took me long enough. lol. I used my mom's F-150 when I took it and I failed the parallel parking and hill parking.

I didn't have to take a driving test myself...where I grew up, we just took driver's ed then went and took the written test and it was done! But during driver's ed, we had to drive so many hours in the car with our teacher.

I didn't have to do parallel parking in my driver's test... which sucks, because one day I HAD to do it and I was by myself, so I had to teach myself how. THAT was fun, haha.
The guy I did my test with scared the ish out of us, he ran a red light and we almost got t boned as he slid the car into oncoming traffic! Guess what? He still got his license. Also, my teacher for the driving test was put on probation about a year later for giving people licenses without proper instruction, and I was like, no crap!
