Keep Your Interior Looking New

If your ride needs a little TLC or you just simply like to keep your interior looking sparkling every time you get in your ride, then here are a few simple ways to keep it looking as new as possible.

•Clean out your car. Throw away any trash and remove any belongings that aren’t necessary. It’s amazing how quickly clutter can accumulate and eventually impede your comfort or driving ability.
•Vacuum your interior with a shop vac if at all possible. Shop vacs often cause a lot of dust to blow around which means it’s always best to vacuum before you begin cleaning out the rest of the car. You’ll also want to remove the floor mats, vacuum them and also the carpet underneath them. If your seats are cloth, you’ll also want to vacuum you’re your seats.
•Using a window cleaner, wash all of your interior windows. Detailers often suggest wiping the windows with newspaper afterwards as it helps to reduce the streaks that may come from not washing well enough with window spray.
•Use a cleaner and/or protector to wipe down your interior and door panels. This helps clean dirt and dust that build up, but will also leave a nice shine to the surfaces. Be sure not to use too much spray on the steering wheel because it can cause the surface to be slippery if applied too liberally.
•If you want to clean your door jambs, you can wet a rag and begin working on them to remove the dirt and grease build up in those areas most people overlook. Keep the area dry after washing the exterior as well. The bottoms of door jambs can be a place where rust forms, so keeping it dry and clean will help prevent this.
•If you have leather, clean it with a product that is specifically designed for leather. You can also condition your seats once a year. They also sell leather wipes which is an easy way to keep your leather surfaces cleaned more often, however I personally prefer something that leaves behind a bit less slickness.
•Shampoo your carpets and upholstery with upholstery cleaner. Always test a small area to make sure the product won’t damage or discolor the fabric. You may need to pay special attention to areas that have more marks or stains. For heavily soiled upholstery you can leave the cleaner sit for awhile before trying to scrub it out again.
My personal preference for cleaning products has always been Meguiars, however there are many products on the market that work well. Try different things and see what you like best.
