Did you know that a car is sold on eBay every 52 seconds? Given the site’s popularity and success, it’s important for consumers to understand how to buy and sell cars on eBay.

Auto auctions on eBay have exceeded most people’s expectations and have become a number one selling auction. The auctions are great for both buying and selling vehicles. Here are some tips to keep in mind if you’re considering using eBay.

Buying on eBay Motors:

If you’re shopping for a specific make or model then you should always do your research so you know its value. Compare the vehicle’s price once you’ve found it on the online auction to other sites like Edmunds.com, NADA.com or KBB.com. This will ensure that you don’t overbid on the vehicle you’re considering purchasing.

You should always research the seller as well. Make sure that you always read their feedback and history. You can also send messages and ask questions regarding the vehicle. Do not be afraid to contact the seller regarding the vehicle and auction.

In my opinion you should always pay for a vehicle history report, using a site such as Carfax.com. Additionally, eBay Motors also offers an inspection service for $99.50.

If you plan on having the car shipped, make sure you know the actual cost for that service.

Selling on eBay Motors:

If you’re considering selling a car on eBay, it’s important to have a clear and accurate description of the vehicle as well as excellent pictures for posting in your online advertisement. You’ll also want to make sure you have the title and/or registration on hand when creating your listing. If you are not the original owner, state that in the description. Make sure that you’re honest and truthful in your description of the car.

eBay structures their fee for selling by charging a flat fee for the listing and an additional fee if you receive a bid on the vehicle you’ve posted.

Always remember to respond quickly to any questions from interested buyers you may receive and always give as much information as you can regarding the vehicle.
