Avoid drive through restaurants.
Although tempting because it doesn’t require you to get out of your vehicle, money spent on fast food drive through places can add up quickly. Instead, seek out a local mom and pop restaurant where you pay a reasonable amount of money for your meal, but get more than fast food offers. You can also look for early bird or daily specials to save even more money.

Pack snacks and drinks.
You’d be amazed at how much money you can spend when you stop at gas stations along the way to your destination. Instead of spending $1-2 for each bag of chips and $2 for each bottle of water, bring them along with you before heading out. You could spend less than $10 and have enough to last you an entire trip.

Minimize your lodging expense.
If you’re road trip involves stopping and staying overnight on the way to your destination, give some thought to camping instead of renting a hotel room. Camping is free and saves you a ton of money. Look for a national park, rest stop or somewhere that even offers showers for the morning. Always remember to camp in a safe, well lit area.

Don’t speed.
Not only does speeding waste gas, but also increases your chances of being pulled over. The worst way to end your road trip is to get a ticket. Not only is all of your money going to be spent paying for it, but more than likely you’ll end up in a town or state where you don’t currently reside. Often times, that can mean making another trip back there to resolve the ticket issue at hand.

Always remember to drive safely and be aware of your surroundings. Pack wisely and enjoy the journey to your road trip destination!
