This one came to mind this morning. When buying cars, do you consider yourself to have good negotiating skills or are you terrified of buying a car/afraid of getting ripped off? How do you feel about your last negotiation (if you have bought a car).

If you think you're just completely awesome at this - got any tips for us?

Hey you didn't ask if we could spell! That's what spell-check is for right!?

As far as negotiating, I don't like to have to haggle with someone and I particularly hate car shopping in general where you have to deal with the same thing at every dealership you walk into. That being said, I'm pretty good at getting a good price on a car only because I do tons of research before I buy anything of significant value. If you know what cars and prices the other places have as well as how financing and interest rates work that gives you a huge advantage!

I am a big fan of doing all the car-shopping you can online first! Checking dealers' inventory, asking for a price, etc.

When I bought my Mustang I went to tons of dealerships to see what they had to offer, cars, prices, and how I was treated. But, I also wanted certain features that I was not willing to sacrifice. I ended up going to the place that had the car I wanted the most (within reason, I knew that I couldn't afford the GT 'vert I really wanted.) I had talked to a lady in the internet sales dept and she seamed sure she could get me in the price range I wanted. So, I went to the dealership to see the car in person. When I got there and she was not there the staff were horrible! The sales lady that "got" me didn't have a freaking clue about anything, and the "financing" guy talked down to me like I had no idea how interest rates work or what was going on. I was so pissed that I demanded my keys back so that I could leave. The next day the internet sales lady called and I explained everything to her. I told her I would not step foot back into that dealership until I knew that I would be able to drive out of there in the car I wanted at the price I wanted. They really try to make you come into the dealership, but they worked around that and I got what I wanted! :D

I think we are pretty good at it.. we look around, research and we both agree on a price before we even really get into buying the car...... we got what we wanted for our Fusion!
