If you could only recommend one vehicle to a friend, what would you choose for the best car/truck on the snow and ice?

SUBARU IMPREZA!!!! They're AWD is AMAZING! My boyfriend just bought one and it is seriously the best on snow and ice and it handles amazingly. I am so impressed by it.

Our cobalt does considerably well in the snow and on ice... surprisingly, it actually does better than the Sierra =O

I would NEVER wish anyone to drive any GM truck in ice/snow. I feel safer in the mustang than I do the truck! I personally would recommend a mustang or a jetta.

Just to iterate the EVO as the best car in inclimate weather... they do ICE racing in these puppies. Also, they have settings available for driving in ice, gravel, tarmac and sand. Can your "insert model here" do that?? :)

:watchout: :watchout: :watchout:

anything AWD will help, but NOTHING will help on ice except stay off the roads, and/or drive slower and leave more distance between cars.

Um, we are talking about REAL snow I believe. :duh:

Yeah, we get REAL snow here. That is where the EVO wins.

Ok to my knowledge being a born and bred Texan snow = ice there. It turns to slush in a matter of hours then refreezes because they rarely get temps below freezing and if they do its not for long. The snow we have gotten here in TN is nothing compared ..it's dusty ..drifting snow. Texas roads turn into ice skating rinks because they tend to get SLEET more than actual snow. Their ain't no such thing as SALTING the roads BEFORE the storm. They SAND the roads during and AFTER the storm so in my opinion I'd choose TN roads over TX ANY DAY!

To be honest.. it's not so much the car as it is the drivetrain

AWD - The best for slippery conditions
FWD - not too bad
RWD - Horrible
4x4 - The absolute Worst!

4x4 is NOT the same as AWD, period!

I just thought we were talking in general.. not just TN and northern states snow.

Not to say Mustangs CAN'T get you home - it's how are your nerves when you get there? I used to have an inclined driveway and if I didn't get home in time before the ice hit, I'd either have to park on the curb or get at a starting distance and push the gas and hope I didn't floor it through the garage and not just into it
