Ok so here it goes....

Today on the way home from work I stop and get gas at the local Pilot Station. Go in get my gas and all that good stuff. Its pouring down outside. Hop in Sasha and pull out of the gas stalls to see this older gentleman all dressed up in Slacks and Dress Shoes and Shirt and Tie trying to kneel down and check out the lower valance under his bumper which is half torn off and laying on the ground. I stopped and got out and asked him if he needed help and he said sure! Got down on the ground (which was nice and wet ) and proceeded to look at it. Half of it was ripped off and the other half was hanging on by the push pins and bolts. So I asked the guy where he was headed and I found out Paducah, KY wish is a small drive from here. I told him the driver side holes were ripped out and asked if he wanted me to just take the thing off completly and he said yes. SO I proceeded to take it all off with a Gerber taking out the bolts and push pins. After getting it all off the and handing it to him, he kinda chuckled after I asked a few questions about one thing, and here is my question to go with this story.

WHY is there a HUGE 3 pc plastic "cover" under the motor? There is a Cover that is there from the bumper to the engine, a cover for the K-member, and a cover behind that that goes over the transmission. I mean seriously? can anyone explain why there is a need for this.. Other then to be a PITA to change the oil on it? Because he said he has to pull it all off just to change the oil. So really... whats the need for it? I know that 4x4 trucks have the off road plates and stuff under there to keep the dirt and debris out, but why this? Anyone?

OH and I did my good deed for the day too :D :banana1:

YAY for good deeds!!

anywho.... besides water, dirt and debris which is why they claim it is there.... its because the dealerships now want to keep people from doing their own oil changes. Some dealers even use torques and such as drain plugs, and "special" dealer only tools to even remove oil filters.... that is why B

Good job Bart! I agree with Olivia, maybe also to give it a "clean" look...some people don't appreciate seeing all the mechanics.

the "clean" look? under the car. The ppl who don't like seeing that stuff, don't look under the car either.

Mfg are getting ridiculous with the crap they are putting on cars these days...
